Pizza lunch Friday 24th
To parents of students in my homeroom, EF7B:
This is to advise that our class has earned a pizza lunch for tomorrow, Friday Feb 24, due to our high contribution in the recent Twoonie Tuesday fundaising for the Education Foundation of Ottawa. As a result, you needn’t pack the usual lunch. Students raised $236 for this outstanding charitable organization!
Nelson Unit: Fears and Phobias
We are ready to begin our third Grade 7 Literacy Unit, “Fears and Phobias.” In this unit, students will read a variety of stories, articles, and other print and media text forms that explore the concepts of fears, phobias, and anxiety, and how people overcome their fears.
As they read and exercise their skills, they will be developing these learning skills and strategies:
- Comprehension: Summarizing, Non-Fiction Recount, novel study
- Writing: Improving Word Choice
- Oral Language: Summarizing While Listening
- Media Literacy: Identifying Point of View
- Character Education: Empathy, or “using compassion to understand others”
Novel study due March 8
We are beginning the always popular “Fears and Phobias” literacy unit by Nelson. Last week, students received the attached assignment outline for an independent novel study on a book of their choice. Book choices are to have been made by Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Info for parents and guidelines for the student projects are here: Fears-Phobias novel study
Narrative draft due Tues Feb 7
This is a busy writing time for students. For one thing, students are crafting a rough draft for a narrative. For the info of parents, three key organizers have been attached:
1. Idea Map for Narrative (all students have completed this organizer and have conferenced with me)
2. Narrative rubric rev (all students have received a hard copy of this)
3. Peer Revision rubric (students will use this form to revise their work with a classmate)
